Hi David,
I have considered twitter. I can see some good points especially for those trying to create a personal profile/persona but how does it relate to trying to establish a big company type profile eg trying to sell stuff to people as a big looking established company/ competing with the big boys of your industry (perhaps I should say niche).
Say in my niche of, mainly lingerie, I am competing with, for example. la senza (you know, him off “Dragon’s Den”), Agent provocateur (Kylie), Debenhams etc “BIG” Companies in lingerie. Then there is me tweeting that I am “taking down old lingerie stock” or listing “a new bra”. I’m coming across as a little man doing a menial little job in lingerie wheereas the big players have teams of people doing the menial stuff.
Still effective?
Do posts count as links?
Do they have any value?
Is it all for your own little (or large) community?
Regards,
John

I believe links are “nofollowed”.
Best to view Twitter the way you would a blog. It’s an opportunity to show a personal side of your business and put a face on it. But you still want to maintain some professionalism.
For your niche, I’d be thinking along the lines of Twittering interesting and useful facts about lingerie (how to choose the right gift, what’s currently popular, etc), along with occasional links to new items on your website, or special offers.
