Should I Be Concerned?

Hi! If you're new here, you might want to register for free email updates. Just use the form at the top of the sidebar. Thanks for visiting The Lucid Blog!

I don’t want to appear rude, but I’m beginning to think that Stompernet are starting to lose it.

No, this isn’t one of those, “Guru X must have gone crazy because his product is so awesome and cheap and you should go and buy it now before he sobers up and starts charging millions of dollars” type of messages.

I’m seriously beginning to think they’ve just got a bit carried away with the whole thing.

Before you read on, just watch a bit of the new video and then come back and tell me you’re not a little bit worried as well:

Stomping The Search Engines 2

Adding an extra dimension towards the end of a product launch is all well and good, but has any thought been given to what happens next?

Put to one side for a moment the paradoxical, “This is better than free because it’s… free” blurb and consider what the impact of this promotion might be.

Stompernet are one of, if not the, most influential parts of the IM industry and what they’ve done here will resonate for quite some time to come.

Consider:

1) Giving away your best products for free is a relatively new trend in the IM industry.  The previous thinking was that giving away products for little or no cost, DEVALUED the product in the eyes of the consumers.

Will consumers spend as much time studying and learning from the material they receive, as they would have if they’d paid a hefty sum of money?

2) The new flood of bonuses that have just been tacked on include some hefty products that have sold in the past for considerable amounts of money.

Again, will consumers spend as much time studying the material, as they would have if they’d paid a hefty sum?

3) The original STES DVDs took me weeks to study all the way through.  This package not only includes STES2 as well, but contains a huge compilation of bonus material from other IM teachers.

Might the consumers feel daunted by the overwhelming amount of information and put off even getting started?

4) Having given away so much valuable produce for free, how will subsequent product launches from other IM teachers, that charge for their material, be viewed?

Will the industry eventually return to the status quo, or has a line been crossed over which it can never return?

————-

My first instinct is to say, ‘who cares, get your hands on this offer while it’s still available and worry about the rest later’.  I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t looking forward to receiving so much valuable material.

The IM industry will evolve and meander as it always does, so concerns over the long-term effects of this promotion should be minimal.

But perhaps this offer should carry some kind of warning.

If you’re easily overwhelmed, easily distracted, and ill-equipped to schedule your time carefully to make time to learn and benefit from this material, then you would do well to think twice.

If you decide to register for this offer (of if you have already done so), I would suggest the following:

1) Review your work schedule and block out 1-2 sessions of study time of 1-2 hours each (depending on your ability to concentrate for long periods of time).

2) When you receive the STES2 and everything else, work your way through the pile and select the item that you would choose if you were only allowed to keep one.

That is the material that you will study first.

3) While studying, don’t wear yourself out making too many notes.  Limit yourself to specific points of action that you intend to take.

4) When you have finished reviewing that material - use your study periods to action the tasks that you have noted down.

5) Only once you have completed these should you go back to your stockpile and begin again from step #2.

If - and only if - you are confident that you accomplish the above - or something like it - go below and register for Stompernet’s offer before it expires on 15th September 2008.

    David,

You have some great points there. Some people will order their package and if their not serious about their business the package will just sit around and draw dust and in those people’s eyes that kind of material has just been devalued. Other people who are to cheap to spend $20.00 on their own business will expect all other Internet Marketers to give away their business tools for FREE also.

There will be Pro’s and Con’s on this from a variety of different people and from different points of view.

I have to say that you guy’s have really put out some terrific material in simple to understand formats. I have learned a lot from LUCID SEO. You guy’s are great in my opinion :>)

Are you being parnoid? Probably Not.
    Should you be concerned? Somewhat.
Personally, I never thought StomperNet stood for anything much but making an aggresive sales effort.
I remember a few month ago when a lady called me all excited about the “second generation” of the internet.
When I pressed her for some detailed answers as to what the “second generation” is like and consists of, she really could not tell me.

I’d say that if it works, great. If it doesn’t work, go to something else.

  3. Steve Says:

I think that it was very smart on their part - It helps keep the
buzz alive. You have to look at the entire launch for what it is,
actually it is a Magazine Subscription Drive with a great bonus
for signing up for your trial subscription.

If you Keep your subscription, you then you get to pay them, $40.00 a month for the privledge of reading their ads -

Yes I think that they know what they are doing….
Do you know what they are doing to you ?

I understand what you are saying about the amount of information that is being promoted along with Stomping the Search Engines 2. I have so much information on my computer right now and have joined so many memberships sites that I don’t have time to go through everything. Lately I am even hesitant about ordering anything else so that I can get through some of the items of interest that I already have.

    David,

It worried me when I sent off for it, but I couldn’t resist it.

It was either the pitch, or the feeling that I didn’t want to miss knowing what was being taught, but I have severe misgivings about the overload it might cause me if I do try to use the information I get.

Maybe it is all about Continuity and Aggressive Marketing - but hey - aren’t we all at least meant to understand the principles and methods available…
and then choose what we feel suits our own personality or financial needs best?

I do think that small-fry like me are stuffed into the background by huge Freebies like this, but that’s Life, “Sharks Rule - OK!”

Good luck with your efforts, good to see you last Monday

    Yours
    John

    They’re not losing it David….

They are merely allowing their friends to build massive mailing lists, and adding to the shear volume of numbers of magazine readers/subscribers they have.

Fantastic marketing, some amazing residual incomes to be had, and I’m sure the usual less than 5% will ever do anything with all this material!

However - they rest will without doubt find themselves on a whole new bunch of mailing lists, and be offered plenty of paid offers in the future….Meanwhile a subscription of nearly $500 a year - even with a 30% drop off rate still leaves one massive paycheck from those mutli thousand members who who continue to subscribe… and probably for a long time to come!

Just shows what can be done with a massive budget and even bigger JV list :)

  9. Roy Everitt Says:

    Stomping the competition, maybe?

Sometimes paranoia can be healthy. As Steve points out, it’s really a very noisy magazine promotion. They can afford to give away all this stuff knowing that 95% of the people who get it will never use more than a fraction of the material - so their position as SEO ‘kings’ is pretty safe.

Other people have done similar things recently - Mike Filsaime gave away 7-figure Secrets for a trial of his printed newsletter/magazine; Steven Pierce did something similar. They all make sure they cover their costs, of course, and get your card details up front.

It’s not a bad model, but who is ever going to top the Stompernet giveaway? Of course, you’ll need access to massive lists as well, so your subscriptions will outweigh the ‘lost’ sales of your giveaway product.

On reflection, Stompernet have just ‘outdone’ everyone else by going for probably the biggest launch ever possible, with a great reputation already, a high-value giveaway and (it seems) every big-name affiliate onboard.

Maybe the rest of us should go away and do something else!

    Roy

  10. David Congreave Says:

Great points Daniel - and thanks for the kudos *blushes*

Excellent point too Steve - StomperNet made a lot of the fact that ads in the magazine are kept to a minimum but, of course, the whole magazine is a physical advert for StomperNet. Not that I’m saying that’s a bad thing - the content is great - but it’s an interesting point. I can’t remember who it was recently that talked about getting paid to advertising and used the Transformers movie as an example of a very profitable movie that was one big advert for the toys.

Good to see you too John. Nothing wrong with having an overload of material, if you can discipline yourself to keep the exposure to a steady and manageable level.

Roy - I agree StomperNet have taken the competition to a whole new level. But there is a plus side. The bigger they get, the harder it is for them to manage the personal, one-on-one care and attention that many people prefer.

Some will always choose a small family-run business, over a dominating corporation. So if you don’t want to compete, then use a different angle.

Great discussion peeps. More to come next week :-)

Ah, I guess that’s the best kind of ’something else’ :)
