Someone recently put me on to Animoto.com. It’s been around since mid-August 2007 but it’s somehow managed to pass me by until now.

Animoto is probably better demonstrated than explained; its WOW factor comes from the ability to make a sleek, professional-looking music video, in about five minutes. Ten minutes if you want something extra special.

The software behind the program works by taking images and text that you’ve provided, and then editing it all together using a random selection of fades and styles. Add some copyright-free music and you’ve got yourself a music video that you can use as a promo, to spice up a sales page, to showcase an event… lots of possibilities here.

You can create basic 30-second videos, free of charge, or you can purchase a pro account that allows you to create longer videos, as well as providing a variety of extra features. Animoto is a lot of fun, but it’s also a very powerful tool for your business.

I also want to commend Animoto for their “Cause” program. If you run a not-for-profit business or a humanitarian cause, you can apply for a free Pro account. I’m still doing some work for Addictions UK, so I applied on their behalf and Animoto granted the upgrade for at least 12 months.
