CornerStayAds Review

08 Dec

As much as I enjoyed using “Peel Ads”, I have to admit to being a little skeptical when I first heard about Harris Fellman’s new software release, “CornerStayAds”.

If you have an advert in the corner of your screen, I thought, there’s only so much you can do with that concept.

I wondered whether CornerStayAds would really be a new product or whether, in reality, this might just be “Peel Ads 1.5”.  I had a vision of the old software with a lick of paint, a few new templates, and maybe some redundant sound effects.

Comparing the reality with my preconceptions, revealed that:

  1. Hitting 30 years of age has turned me into a cynic.
  2. That Harris Fellman has a great deal more imagination than I do.

CornerStayAds, you’ll be pleased to know, IS a new product.  In fact the only thing it has in common with the Peel Ads software is that it involves turning the corner of your web page into a versatile marketing device.

After reading the sales page for the first time, I was intrigued.

By the time I’d downloaded the software, read the installation instructions and watched a demo of the advert, I was completely sold on the idea.

CornerStayAds takes what made Peel Ads so impressive, and adds what amounts to an infinite level of versatility.  Before the end of this review, I’m going to discuss a number of ways this software can be used.

And I won’t even be scratching the surface.

Before I get into how the software works, consider for a moment the following question.

How do you make the SECOND most important purpose of your website, stand out to your visitors?

Think about that question for a moment.

If I’d asked you how to make the FIRST most important purpose stand out, then the answer is easy.  You put it front, and center, and as big as you can get away with.  Don’t give the visitor any chance of missing it.

But the SECOND purpose, the part of your website you want your visitor to look at AFTER they’ve looked at the primary purpose… that’s a little harder.  You need to make it visible enough to be unmissable but, at the same time, not distract from the main objective.

For example, on a sales page, you want the visitor to focus on your offer.  But if they decide not to purchase, you want to at least obtain their email address so you can follow up later on.  The difficulty is in figuring out where to put the subscribe form so that they won’t miss it but, at the same time, not be distracted by that while they’re still considering a purchase.

Or what about your blog?  You want the visitor to read your blog post so they can see how interesting and informative your articles are but, when they’re finished, you want them to register to receive updates, or look at an advert, or read another article.  Again, how do you present those options, without annoying or distracting your visitor at the wrong time?

This is where CornerStayAds shows its genius.

CornerStayAds allows you to attract your visitor’s attention by placing itself in the one place on the web page where even the smallest advert will still be noticed.

You’ve no doubt heard the cliché about the dot of ink on a white page?  Show it to people and ask them what it is, and the majority will say ‘a dot’, even the though it only takes up less than 1% of the page.

People see the dot, and not the white space that sits around it.

With that in mind, consider the layout of most websites.  Unless they use percentages for their dimensions and fill the screen with content from top to bottom, and from left to right, there is usually some empty space, on the right, or on both sides.

Visitors will mentally block that space out, in the same way that you quickly stop noticing the black borders on the top and bottom of a film in widescreen format.

Unless you put something into that space.

A small 50×50 square, that would be barely noticeable when placed on a busy page, is extremely visible when placed in the corner of a screen, in an area in which the visitor expects to see nothing but empty space.

The original Peel Ads already demonstrated how eye-catching this effect can be.

It doesn’t have to be gaudy.  It doesn’t have to blink and flash.  It doesn’t have to be in twelve inch high, bold type.  And it doesn’t have to jump out at the visitor when they least expect it and interrupt them.

It just sits quietly in the corner of the page so that, when the visitor has had time to take in the web page in its entirety and grasp its purpose, it won’t be long afterwards that their eye will be drawn to the advert in the corner.

Exactly like a spot on a piece of white paper.

Or a ketchup stain on a pristine white shirt.

Now, of course, a small CornerStayAd may be noticeable, but it doesn’t give you much room to work with.  So, fortunately, when the visitor moves their mouse over the image, a small window opens in the corner of the screen, on which you can place…

Virtually ANYTHING that you like.

An image… some text… an audio panel… a video… a subscribe form.

CornerStayAds Examples

Or any combination of these.

Allow your mind to race with all the possibilities for a moment.  Go ahead… I’ll wait.

Back with me again?  I’ll list a variety of suggestions for using the software later but, for now, just consider the simple concept of placing a small “Look Here” image in the corner of your web page, that expands into a subscribe form when the mouse hovers over it.

Inserting video and audio is a cool idea, but even with just the simple application of the CornerStayAds software to add a subscribe form to the corner of your page, you can ensure its visibility, without taking up valuable space on the page, and without screwing up the timing.

This is so important because every visitor will have their own personal time limit, after which their attention on the main purpose of the page dwindles to the point of looking round the rest of the page to see if there is anything else of interest.

Assuming that capturing the email address of the visitor isn’t already the primary purpose of your page, THAT is the point in time at which you want to show your visitor your subscribe form.  It is at that key moment when the visitor has decided how likely it is that you have something of interest for them, and are ready to listen to your request.

If you simple place your lead capture form on the page somewhere, the visitor might see it too early, before they’ve had the opportunity to decide whether they’re interested in anything you have to offer.

Or worse, the visitor might reach the critical moment and be perfectly primed for listening to an offer of a free gift in exchange for their email address, but because the lead capture form isn’t until further down the page (or has already passed) the opportunity is wasted.

But if you’ve placed your subscribe form in a CornerStayAd, your advert remains PERMANENTLY in the peripheral vision, ready to capture the full attention of the visitor, at just the right time.

I don’t know about you but, if you’re an internet marketer, how can that not excite you, even just a little bit?

And that’s just one application of CornerStayAds.  There are many, many more uses and possibilities.

The CornerStayAds software is relatively easy to install, and is certainly less fiddly than the original Peel Ads.  There are just three steps to the process:

Step One: Upload a couple of small files to the same folder as your web page.

Step Two: Complete an online form in the members area.

Step Three: Copy the provided code onto the web page on which you want the CornerStayAd to appear.

The form that you complete has a number of options that add to the versatility of the tool.

You can specify in which of the four corners your advert should appear, and also some of the accompanying visual effects.  The content of your CornerStayAd can simply be created as a separate web page, and then the code pasted into the form.

CornerStayAds comes with a number of templates that can easily be modified with your own text, images, YouTube videos, or subscribe form, so you definitely don’t need to be a coder to get this up and running.

The CornerStayAds package includes a selection of small images that can be used as the front-end of your advert, but there is nothing to stop you from creating, or importing any gif or jpeg image.

In fact the script is so versatile, although the recommended principle is a small CornerStayAd that opens into a small window, there’s nothing to stop you from using a much larger image for your CornerStayAd, that opens into a much larger window.

I’m always keen to provide pros and cons in every review, but it really is very difficult to pick fault with CornerStayAds.  If I had to pick on something, I could perhaps grumble that I have to log-in to the members area to use the tool that creates the adverts.  But this is a minor gripe that really comes under the category of “Features I’d like to see in future updates”

It’s going to be very interesting to see what kind of creative ideas people will come up with for utilizing this software.

A big part of the appeal of the original Peel Ads launch, was the low cost of entry.  Impressively, a year later, and CornerStayAds has launched with the same low price point.  And with no hidden expenses, or subscription payments required, this is a very affordable option for the majority of marketers.

In response to your eMail query as to why I haven’t purchased Corner Ads yet, the reason is that I am not in a position to make any new purchases at the present time. Very Interesting product and I may look at it again later

Two words as to why I haven’t bought CornerStayAds:

    Information overload

I have 1,000+ e-mails in my inbox from internet marketers most of who are trying to sell me something…obviously I can’t buy eveything

Also the price is a little high.
