DAVID
So what’s new this week?

BETHANY
I learnt how to do search engine optimisationing.

DAVID
You learnt seach engine what?

BETHANY
Optimisationing.

DAVID
Excellent, how far did you get?

BETHANY
What do you mean how far?

DAVID
Well how much did you learn?

BETHANY
All of it.

DAVID
All of it?

BETHANY
YES, all of it. Which part of that sentence is confusing you?

DAVID
I’m not confused, I’m sceptical. I took me months to learn all the different facets of search engine optimisation and you’re saying you’ve learnt all of it in, what, a week?

BETHANY
It was more like… say… an hour.

DAVID
An hour?

BETHANY
OK, it was more like 60 minutes.

DAVID
Ok – so let’s say you’re posting an article on our blog, how would you go about optimising that for the search engines?

BETHANY
I’d paste the article into the Wordpress thing, click on Analyze, and make the recommended adjustments until I get a decent score. Simple.

DAVID
Oh I see. You’re using the Wordpress plugin called Scribe SEO to help you optimise the posts for the search engines.

BETHANY
Yep, it’s really easy.

DAVID
That isn’t really learning SEO is it?

BETHANY
Why not?

DAVID
Well Scribe SEO does the keyword research for you and then tells you what keywords to add and where to put them. I don’t need to use that. Because I spent months learning SEO I can do my own keyword research and I can figure out where to put the keywords myself.

BETHANY
So?

DAVID
So you haven’t REALLY learned SEO, have you?

BETHANY
No, you’re absolutely right, I didn’t waste MONTHS learning SEO. I used technology to achieve the same thing in a fraction of the time.

DAVID
(No comeback)

BETHANY
Don’t you feel a bit stupid having wasted such a big chunk of your life on something that a plugin can do in a couple of minutes?

DAVID storms off

BETHANY
Well, it looks like I’ll have to finish this video off. Don’t waste time trying to figure out all the SEO stuff yourself; use Scribe SEO instead. It’s dead easy to use and it works a treat.

BETHANY
That’s just childish.

UK Addiction Treatment Organisation – Can You Help?

26 May

For the past few years I’ve focussed my SEO efforts on my optimising my own websites and supporting Lucid SEO students.  Recently however, I decided to try my hand at assisting other organisations directly and during the last few months I’ve quietly taken on a couple of clients.

One of these clients that I’m especially pleased to be working with is Addictions UK, a nonprofit organisation that specialises in the treatment of addiction.  In a moment, I’m going to ask for your help and all it will require is 2-3 minutes of your time.

But first, I’d like to explain why the work that Addictions UK does is so valuable.

Lucid SEO on Trial – Free Report

13 Nov

In this free report, I provide a complete, behind-the-scenes story of how I came top of the recent Focus Seminar SEO contest.

You’ll read about:

  • The disastrous first week that saw my entry get kicked out of Google.
  • How I got back into the Google index.
  • The exact steps that I took to beat the competition.
  • How I pushed my web page, not just above the other competitors, but above the OFFICIAL Focus Seminars website (oops!).
  • How I swiped the #1 spot AND the #2 spot in Google (does that mean I came in 1st and 2nd?).
  • How I also got 1st or 2nd place in Yahoo, MSN, and at least half a dozen other search engines.

Lucid SEO on Trial

This is the most in-depth SEO report that I’ve produced since I worked with Tim Whiston on the original Lucid SEO manual
