Hi! If you're new here, you might want to register for free email updates. Just use the form at the top of the sidebar. Thanks for visiting The Lucid Blog!
When The Nettle Magazine took a break towards the end of 2007, I expected that it would only be for a few months.
In the end, the hiatus was to last almost 18 months.
There are various reasons for the delay, the most significant of which was my reluctance to relaunch with anything other than a TOTALLY new experience for my readers.
A number of ideas came and went until, finally, the solution presented itself in an unexpected fashion.
It started with an email from Joe Jablonski (affiliate and JV manager for Mike Filsaime)…
Joe invited me to submit regular articles for inclusion in Mike Filsaime’s, ‘print’ newsletter, MarketingDotCom.
With an reader circulation of over 15,000, this was an appealing offer, but I had some reluctance; the majority of this stemming from a doubt over whether or not my articles would always be used. I wasn’t keen on the idea of taking the time to write a new article each month, only to see it bumped in favour of something else.
I expressed this concern to Joe in my reply but, to my surprise, the response came directly from Mike himself, promising that he would use every article I submitted. As a demonstration of his sincerity, Mike went on to pay for an extended edition of the MarketingDotCom newsletter, specifically to make room for my unusually long article, “Marketing Lessons From a Beach Hawker“.
Starting with a beautifully illustrated, centre-page spread and spanning five pages, seeing my article in a professional print format is one of my proudest moments as a writer.
And then it dawned on me…
A professionally designed newsletter, and a 15,000+ audience – what better format could there be for the re-launch of The Nettle?
So, starting from the May 2009 issue (released in April) of MarketingDotCom, you can read my new column, “Grasping The Nettle”. The articles I had intended to become features in the re-launched magazine, will now make their home in the Mike Filsaime’s monthly newsletter.

Does Mike want me to do a video for the back page of MarketingDotCom like I used to do for the Nettle? I’ll do it for free!
